local prices for chain sharpening

my local stihl dealer charges $8 off and $10 on, for any size chain. Doesnt matter if you got a 50", they'll sharpen it for 8 bucks if you take it in. I've seen it happen, no lie.

Sounds like a good deal for my 42" chain. But the mileage from here would kill the deal.

Local JD/Stihl dealer charges $3 for any size chain. I thought about taking the chain off my 44" bar, but I don't want to gamble on a $40 chain.

Hard to believe. Labor these days must be free. :bang:

The reason they sharpen any chain for 8 bucks is because the majority around my area run 20", its rare if you see anything over 20". Thats how they can do it for 8, so for the guy who has a 50" oe w/e its a steal.
