The black fuel tank makes it look more like a Double Eagle 80. Pull the AF cover off and let's have a look under the hood.

I'll get a picture for you after work tonight Mark. I'm in Australia, if that made any difference with colour schemes?

So why the sp81 for me? Well, it was my first mcculloch chainsaw. The first i rebuilt with a brand new block and seals and piston. It is what got me hooked. So sentimental reasons for that. Also as mentioned from others. Its light weight and easy to handle. It also sounds awesome and makes me smile. The 850 if stock is a bit heavier. But runs great.

That ebay saw is a sp80. Looks really good.

All this talk of 82cc Macs so I thought I'd better share the ProMac 800 I picked up over the weekend. I already have an 850, but have been on the hunt for one of these, that I could actually afford for quite some time.

This does look more like a de80 more than an 800. Not just the color scheme. The clutch cover and decompression are not the normal in 800 saws. Not that they werent made cause they were but not as common.

I feel the same way about my 800, I bought it from @joeymt33 who was an official mac 82cc nut and a decent fellow to deal with. I guess your first one is always special, no matter what.

I look at alot 80cc macs like d250 and that type model but they look more technical to work on then the current saws I collect. This one made me add to my ebay cart. Looks good but I'm alil nervous. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Mc...p2349624.m2548.l6249&mkrid=706-127636-26712-0
Thats a little bit high for that model , especially when he states in the description that its not firewood ready? Honestly for these models running I wouldn't spend more than 100.00, or 40.00 not running.
Ask round here a few days and tell people what your willing to spend.

And bar plates. And clutch covers/chain brakes.
Agreed. Why so many missing clutch covers!!! Bar plates I always assume I will have to make and I get genuinely excited when I buy a saw and it has them. I don't buy vintage saws with brakes.

The other parts I run out of are clutches and bars. The clutches on the large frame old Macs seem pretty reliable, but almost every 'parts saw' I buy is missing one??

Some of the later PM800s had a DSP with the corresponding clutch cover.

As an aside, MAC beefed up the front of the clutch cover on the 800 and later saws over the 850, but they really weakened the muffler end. Many of the DSP versions are cracked at the DSP carve-out.

@clint53, @Xpropane and @Syncop8r, I have a PM800 and a PM805 pho with DSP and only one clutch cover between the two that I would part with.

800:

800 has a short rope so count on replacing it.

805:

805 DSP valve is missing the plastic top.
Pictures didn't turn out of the back of the saw: the beak over the sparkplug of the rear shroud is broken off - mostly cosmetic #216136. The upper screw on the same piece is stripped and the corresponding screw next to it on the flywheel cover is stripped.

Handles on both saws are straight and the saw dust covers are good.

Some more pictures in the next post. I am no longer pricing saws so if you are interested in either shoot me a PM and a bid. Shipping will be on your nickel.
