What numbers are stamped under the saw on the crankcase?
I’m not well versed in the older saws.
can anybody enlighten me as to the model, and a bit of info on the machine pictured?
thank you

Gear drive with that color scheme and no compression release (that I can see) indicates it is an 840 or 890. 840 is 99cc, 890 is 103cc so not a lot of difference there. The lack of an automatic oil pump could also mean 1-86 @ 99cc so still right in there.
I have a 48" bar on my 840 and it handles it well.

I can still hear it, and that has been more than 5 years ago...

Thanks for the 640 info Mark. I've had two and should have remembered that. I know they have the later convex starter cover.1/2" pitch chipper. I made up a new chain for that bar just for that project.

The 640 is not the super series engine and so would not have the shroud over the muffler.
