how many wire clips needed on Molly Hogan splice with thimble?
For OSHA purposes, its like 1 for every 1/8" in diameter (don't quote me on that) with a minimum of 2

In reality if you're talking a farmers eye, or a Flemish eye, just one or 2 is fine and they really don't even need to be all that tight as the rewinding around the eye is where all the strength is, the clamps just keep it from coming undone in the brush, Lots of swaged eyes are really Flemish/Farmer eyes with the pressed ferule to secure the windings, Ironically the ferule and clamps makes this type of splice weaker, as there is a bending point at the ferule or clamp, same goes for a "loggers eye" splice the initial bending point of the final tuck is where they pretty much always break, if not at the apex of the eye

A proper Molly Hogan just uses a single strand and makes a loop, which can be used to attach 2 shackles together, the Molly should have the ends tucked and have a total of 6 windings or more, no need for clamps as the tucking secures the loose ends.

Molly's are also really good at replacing cotter pins and holding important tools securely until needed as without the ends tucked they are fairly easy to undo, and redo as necessary
