It would seem simple enough to spray a can of black paint over the top of a new wood stack, I was just wondering if that would make the sun heat the pile more and bake the stuff dry faster (or dryer)?

Sounds like a recipe for a mess if you ask me. Alternatively I would suggest covering the top of your woodpiles with plywood or black plastic. Spray away on the plywood but probably not worth the effort as the extra effect wii probably only affect the top row or so.

You aren't going to gain much heat for the pile that way. You'll get some extra heat for the top layer only. You'll offset that by keeping more moisture in - the paint is a barrier to moisture escaping.

Clear plastic, vented, might do some good, if it's not too tight. Don't want to trap moisture. Mostly, just keep the rain off and the sun will do the rest.
