A friend is moving and was cleaning out her shed. Found this her ex had,

Dug through some boxes and found the starter cover, needs a spring and some screws.

Pulled the muffler and piston and cylinder look great.

Haven't checked compression yet but it feels good!

Looks like a good cleaning and a couple parts and I'll have a good 60cc saw. It'll fit nice between my 55 and 181!!

Finally got the recoil starter rebuilt today. Checked compression dry 175 psi!
Filled the tank with fresh fuel and couldn't get it to pop.
Put a little in the cylinder and it fired right up and died.
Looks like I need to check the fuel line and pull the carb apart for cleaning.

Yup. Definitely needs a good cleaning. Maybe tomorrow. Got a brand new 20" bar and chain waiting to hear her run.:drinking:

Ok so I've got this carb opened up and there is some gunk.
One question I have is the oval screen under the top cover. Is there supposed to be 2 of them layered? Seems like maybe they had stuck together and got missed?

Also can I reuse the diaphragms and gaskets or is that a no no??

I put it all back together and she kicked on the first pull. Fired on the second then stalled. I had h&l set at 1.5 turns out. Messed with low setting a bit and got it to idle for a few minutes. I need to refresh myself on the low side tuning. Am I correct in that the high screw does not affect starting and idling?

I went through a saw in similar condition last spring for a friend. It lost about 5 pounds when I cleaned all the dirt and chips out of it.

I took the saw completely down and replaced all the gaskets and seals. All rubber parts were replaced. It should be set for another 30 years of work. Great saws - simple to work on and powerful. I have a 44 that looks like the 61's little brother.

Well thanks to the video On tuning by Mitch, I got it dialed in and purring like a kitten at an idle, Quick throttle response, and four stroking just a bit at the top end. Just realized it's missing a chain adjuster so I have to try it in some wood later.

Grabbed the chain adjuster from my 181 and cut a few cookies. My buddy says he thinks it'll give his 460 a run for its money. He must need to sharpen his chain! Lol! But it did cut pretty good! I'll buck some firewood thisweekend and see what I think compared to my 55.

Congrats on getting the saw, have you got pics of it cleaned up properly?
I could not sleep at night if my equipment looked like. LOL

Thanks and not yet. It's been snowing every other day here in Connecticut lots of plowing lots of shoveling.

Speaking of "you suck", my buddy found a ms460 for $150. It had sucked up some thin wire and clutch was stuck, Musta ran out of oil too, looked like the saw was burnt up. It took apart cleaned it up, looks like new runs great, no scoring on the piston, 175 psi.
He sucks!!!!!:D
