welcome to the site.... i usually just blow it off with compressed air,,, then try simple stuff first, is teh plug good? no cracked, disconnected or shorted out wires? there is a single control on it, that is the ignition switch, and sets teh decomp valve to start it,, is the switch part making contact in the on posistion? check the gap between teh flywheel & coil,, should be about .010-.015 or so, i'm not sure exactly...if all that checks out,,, then you may have to find a replacement coil, don't know who would have it, tho.......

thanks, knockbill. your saw cleaned up real nice. glad to know that it's running good now. hopefully, mine will be firing up soon.
i'm taking the coil out to clean it and will check the gap between the flywheel as you suggest.

i appreciate your help!
