This is my Poulan Pro 405. Made in the same factory as my P45 and P42.

I also have never heard of a P45. I have a P41 in the project line and I thought it was made in Peterborough.

I looked it up and Huron Park is a little bit away. I would still like to know the year of that saw as being a Poulan it has to be 1988 or newer.

See I have heard that everything for those saws was sent to the states in 1988 but have found different storys on that and it might not have happend till 1993.

I would seem that the Pioneer/Partner branded saws would still have been manufactured in Peterborough from 84-88 or so?

I can't find any information on the P45 regarding the rings it requires. Nor can I find any infomation on the PP455 ring size either. Mike Acres site gives the bore size for the P45 of 50mm. Nothing on the P455. So maybe I'm just out of luck?

I will measure teh 455 cylinder I have and double check the number on it.
Bob

I honestly couldnt tell you the years of any of the Pioneer/Partner's or Poulan Pro's I own. Except for my P42HP. My father bought it brand new here in Canyonville in 1986. As unbelievable as it sounds, he still has his receit for it.

My P42 was made in the same factory as my running P45. As well as the other two P45 crank cases I have in my shop. All of them have the same tag, just different S/N. The picture of the Poulan Pro (its the 405 I took a photo of) claims to be built in the same factory. As for the PP455 crank case in my shop. I dont know. I havent looked at it in over a year.

The p45 resembles the pp455 the closest. They are almost 100% the same. The use the same P/C and same coil. The part number for the rings is 507476508. These are the same for the 455 and 45.

Thanks, so it seems they were buliding at least some Pioneer saws in Huron Park at the Trail factory and not at the Pioneer factory after the Elux buyout in .

Interesting that they would send the tooling to Huron Park and then end up sending it out again to the Poulan factory in Shreveport.

At least thats the way its appearing to me but its very confusing.

They are very much alike yes. There are a few small differences. There is a difference in free speed RPM. P45 is 11,500 and the 455 is 12,500. According to Mike Acres site the P45's stroke is 36.5mm and the 455 is 47.6mm. There's a small difference in the Flywheel/Coil Air Gap.

If the rings are the same. All be damned I sure better jump on the deal and get them. I'll be up to two 72cc saws. :msp_thumbup:

I have been around Pioneer saws for a long time and a P45 would be a new one on me, never heard of one.

i picked this one up a couple of years ago. It think they were made about the same time as a P39 and P65. A the end of the production before Poulan pro

That's a typo on Mikes site. The strokes are both the same. There are several typos on Mikes site. One that comes to mind is the P60 listed as 99cc.

farmsaw

I just put my Farmsaw on the bench for a rebuild. It has no spark, but no big deal as i have a new electronic ign already. It will get the fuel system work and a good cleaning. What saw is the farmsaw compared to? How is it regarded? Seems like a very capable, well built saw.

If memory serves me correctly it is basically based off the P41. It is more of the homeowner/farmer than professional market. I know it had a spur instead of rim sprocket and possibly a little less horsepower. it is a very strong and capable saw though.

Sure seems like a tough saw! This one has a rim on it and it's got little wear. It's funny what was considered a "farm/homeowner" saw in the 70s and 80s. This saw and similar offerings from that era would be pro saws today.

Ahh,..I see ,its not a Pioneer.

I never doubted you Jerry!

I read the post where you said you had never heard of this particular Pioneer saw model. I shook my head and read the post again. Jerry's never heard of a Pioneer model number???? I was sure it had to be a typo in the model number. P42 instead of P45. Then I saw the pictures. It's clear now.

That is what I originally thought also,I knew there was a 455 once Poulan was building some of the leftover Pioneer designs. My manuals don`t even mention the 45.

P45 Saw

The P45 is a Pioneer Partner.
Pioneer made a P42 P52 and P62 for one year, 1983. Those saws were yellow. In 1984-88 they were orange and had the Pioneer Partner label, also added the model P39 In 1987 and 1988 they added the P45 and P65 model saws.
My P45 uses the same frame as a P41, just a larger bore and more plastic. Different ignition and rewind and has a manual decompression like the P51 and P61
I remember when I purchased a P62HP new I had an option of buying a P65 but the dealer had no info on the saw. It was the same price. I beleive it is the same bore and stroke just a beefed up crank and bearings.

farmsaw

Ill be posting pics of this rebuild here as I go. And maybe a few on the main part. This is my first Pioneer, and Ive wanted one for a while after reading here. This is how it is now. Its dirty, no spark but the saw was not abused. It will cleanup well. Any one have a lead on some decals for these?

Pioneer

For the ones that like the above brand of saw. I just talked to Bryce Stott about 10 minutes ago and he told me he had bought 3 trailer loads of NOS parts for the above saw.
He also told me he was setting up a website to sell from.
The bad part is he does not take wish lists. Tom
