Thanks buddy! How's that 650 coming along? Bet it looks good too, I can hardly wait to see it!....Perry.
I haven't had any time to work on it. I clear coated it and have it ready to go together but I can't find my crank seals for the life of me.... Soon... I have to get it going for the gtg on the 9th!

Picked up a P38 won't run for $60 along with a locked up mall 2mg last night. Tested compression on p38, 120psi. Not terrible I guess, it feels decent. Checked spark, nothing. That's as far as I got till this weekend.

also tested 1560 last night for compression 150psi. I think it will make a good runner. Mark im gonna PM you for an IPL for the 38 if you have one.

Thanks guys my pioneer collection has exploded in the past few days. CAD has struck again

check your ignition coil if you have the prestolite blue coil those coils are known to go bad take the coil out put in the oven at 325 deg for 4-5 minutes some times it you will get spark back

Thanks for info chainmaster! I cant say I would have ever thought of doing that to a solid state ignition so I apprecaite the advice. I'll check it out this weekend

problem is the varnish in the wiring when they wrap around coil inside i guess it was not that great some times it gets a little moister inside and it shorts out these coils are bad of doing that some homelites carry the same coil XL76-XL75 the Super EZ and Super Mini those i know that they add if you get one you need to a swap with the mounting bracket

huh? read it five times. still can't figure it out.

Jerry,

The blue coil bodies are the same but the lamination that slips into the coil have different mounting holes to attach the coil to the saw. There's a little clip that slides in beside the lamination that can be pulled back to slip it out.

Does that make sense?

kinda what I was gathering but couldn't be sure. thanks tim

Welp guys, I finally got the 610 to run. Double checked spark and it was very healthy, so I poured some mix down the carb and got a burble or 2. My son helped a little while I pulled, giving it a little throttle and she lit! Made it's first cut in 50 years!

Back story is my grandfather (whom I never knew) bought this saw new back in the day. My dad remembers cutting up trees with him using a 2 man hand saw, so when he bought this it made quite the impression. I do need a few pointers...
My top cover is pretty loose and rattles like crazy. I'm sure I could put some shim stock in there but I'd rather hear the right way to go about firming up the latch. Question 2 involves the carb. I did a full rebuild and restored H&L to where they were, what I don't know is what this thumb screw is for?

I borrowed your pic Perry Pioneer, hope you don't mind. I'm talking about the one below the choke lever. Once I got it running an cut with it, I had to screw the idle in almost the whole way to get it to stay running. Last thing I want to do is roach her right away.

The saws chain is completely toast. It's an original Pioneer measuring @ .050 .404 w/ 62DL. Was it normal for 404 to be used on them?
Thanks for any and all help.

Alright go blue nice saw glad to see you got it running 600 series are cool saws, the thumb screw is the high speed adjustment and should be turned out 1 1/4 turns as a starting point, the small needle on the left side is the low speed and should be 3/4 turn starting point that's the low speed adjustment, do you have the inner shroud under the top should have rubber isolaters on it sometimes you can put a little silicon tit to raise them up a little to quite things down.
