WOW must have some great monkeys working at Popular Mechanics. I have yet to own an 029 or MS290 whose filter isn't caked in debris in a heartbeat.
Funny how the only pro-saw the J-Red CS2159, mag case, adjustable oiler etc.......well the filter was too hard to to get at...ha, must have been those pesky plastic buckles on the top cover.........because we never go out to cut wood without a scrench!! I have searched online but does anybody have a eamil where i can tell Popular Mechanics they are a bunch of retards? I used to read PM years ago, failed to realize they have gone to the dogs.

I saw this and was so pi$$ed for several reasons

They're convinced that you need access to your air filter every three minutes. Never mind the fact that you hardly ever have to clean your air filter with a husky.

They claim that the spring loaded cover on the back of the jonsered air filter is hard to get off??? Are they on drugs? I could take one off in 5 seconds with a blindfold on.

Antivibe? Hello? Never mentioned????

Believe it or not I can see the editor's, Jim Meigs' house from my parent's house. Went to high school with this kids. I'll have a word the next time I'm there. He's not the chainsaw reviewer but he is an editor there.

I'm pretty new here and I only have two saws (3 week old Husqvarna 372XP and a 3 year old Stihl MS290 Farm Boss). I think the 290 is a good dependable saw, but I too notice the air filter gets way dirtier much quicker than the Husqvarna's. I recently bought a replacement filter for the 290 and noticed they changed the design, but it still seems to get just as dirty as before. Do the new Stihl saws breath cleaner than the older ones?

the new new ones do like the 391, 362 etc because they bootlegged the husky air injection system and called in an "innovation"

AFAIK there have been no changes to MS 290 WRT air filtration.

They must like a single knob, and only a single knob top cover hold down.

Clips - unacceptable, requires manual dexterity.

Screws - unacceptable, who wants to carry a scrench around all day?

"Dislikes: Given how capable and well-engineered the Solo is, we found it odd that its throttle linkage is exposed in the gap between the front of the handle and the saw body. We didn’t experience dirt or twigs hanging it up, but this linkage should be shielded, as on all the other saws."

Yep, they are officially morons over at Popular Mechanics...

AH come on, I never bashed the 660 on here, look it up LOL. Of course your dealership sells enough small saws to even keep the mothership in production, so thanks! HA HA. Yes it's real. Long story. Have a hot rod being delivered Monday that is suppose to be a barn burner. The stocker 066 I have been running stumps timber nice. I still have 2 Orange saws and two Orange and White saws, but I just sold my ported 390 to another member here.

Well your no fun anymore, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr,LOL

Pssssssssssst, the real reason the 290 won was due to what, yup, those dayumm FLIPPY CAPS,LOLOLOLOL

We had a 10 minute storm come through here Sunday. High winds tore up pure hell. Talk about sales, I've been running my azz off all week, its been one helluva Stihl selling week. Its rare when I sell 2-MS660's at full list within 24 hrs in the DC area but this week I did. Even had one guy ask me are you discounting these Stihls, I said are you crazy, I'm thinking about rasing the prices, he frowned, paid list. Its been a great week for saw sales,:cheers:

My local dealer (1/2 mile down the road) sold out his entire stock including the blowers/trimmers, etc. 3 nights ago. Of course the guys who broke the window to enter forgot to leave money to pay for it all. Had I been awake I probably would have heard the window breaking.

So they pick the heaviest saw with the least power as the winner, wonder how much money Stihl sent to PM for that one. Steve

I no longer view magazine reviews as a credible source, I gave up on Consumer reports many moons ago, too many purchases where I relied on CR, only to be very disappointed.
I do like the user reviews on Amazon, there needs to be at least 20 responses and if you read enough of them, I find it to be a lot more reliable source than magazines.
