Back in my younger days, I spent a couple years cutting shortwood in the South. My best saw was an 041 that I bought new. For spare saws, I had a Poulan Model 53, and also a 70-A. Both the Poulans were big, heavy, slow-cutting saws with an exhaust pipe leading from the cylinder, and absolutely no muffler. They were interesting saws in a way, and were both ultra reliable. When I finally sold out, I kept the 041, and took both Poulans to the local Poulan dealership to see what they might be worth. The old guy hardly raised an eyebrow when he saw the 53. He almost wet his pants when he saw the 70-A, and I sold it to him for $200. Back in the late '70s, that wasn't bad money. Recently, I have been watching for a 70-A on Ebay, but have not seen one yet. Does anyone else recall either of these models, and have any thoughts to share about them?
