Diagnostic my ass. If you can't tell if a saw has sufficient compression with a couple starter pulls, you don't need to be troubleshooting anything in the first place.

I guess it's a way of giving specifics, like if you're selling a saw instead of saying 'good' compression you can be specific, especially if the saw doesn't run. Honestly, ring wear is gradual, and there's surely a point where the saw runs ok but could run considerably better with a new ring.

I somewhat agree with you, my shoulder can tell if a saw has decent compression, and how well a saw runs is somewhat indicative as well.

I can. The people on AS that ask for help on their non-running saw can't. Why tell them to rebuild the carb if the p&c is toast?
