That looks like Pin-oak. If so, have you worked with it in the past?

It is Red Oak to the best of my knowledge. A tree guy friend of mine took it down and said he had a Red Oak for me. I can pretty surely say i have never milled a pin Oak but I have milled quite a few Red's and they usually always look phenomenal as soon as you flip the slab, but as soon as they start to dry the lose the red and get grey/white...
 
Pin-Oak is the common name and is one of many species in the red oak tree family.

They're difficult to dry and keep from splitting. I thought maybe you had a secret.
