I’ve had people try to buy the barn some of the numbers thrown around was crazy . But recycled barn wood sells at a premium .

I like using the old peanut oil to quench knives because it smells like ….. fried turkey….. hate the smell of burning engine oil

Either way, it wasn’t worth putting money into it for me. If I was gonna tear into it at that mileage, I am going to do a full rebuild, and the transmission wasn’t long for this world.
So I've past this pile of trees for 2 yrs. now and then and wanted to cut some wood out of it but a sign on a tree at the access had a sign that said it was "watched w cameras or sumthing". A month or so I saw survey tape in the woods and I looked up land on the gis in my county and found a Corp. bought the land about 18 acres and they are building something on it. A house was on the property but it was destroyed 3 yrs ago or so. I went there today and cut this wood and I'll go back till I can't. The wood is seasoned and tons on the pile.....
I assume the wood on the top is Sour wood? I've never burned it before but it's hard and the bark is falling off and the wood is very hard.

These Red Oak logs were heavy and full of water, I assume that rain ponded in spilt on the long log because the split was like lake to sky and the rain.

That's oak for you. I cut one that was 2 years off the ground and the moisture reading was in the high 30's oak needs to be felled and split immediately when possible.
That's pretty clever!
The red oak log has about 16' and about 5' off the ground and heavy and I didn't want to mess w it by myself. It might roll of the brush and crush me. I'll get some help and maybe roll it off the pile...

What was it the English chestnut that was everywhere before it got diseased. I read an article on how great of lumber it made.
It was the American Chestnut that died off. There is a group trying to bring it back. We have an 36' x 60' barn built around 1860 that was all Chestnut. Over the years many repairs were needed to it but we managed to save it. Now it has a lot of Oak and Pine beams. Thirteen of the 22 foot roof rafters are made from Lodge Pole Pines. All of the flooring is made from Oak, Chestnut and Hemlock. I have replaced a lot of the floor joist beams from Ash and Maple trees off of the property.

Thanks for the clarification, I couldn't remember exactly but it was a interesting read. Those American walnut trees were huge, they showed pics. It was also depressing to see the tree basically disappear. They said there was a couple small groups of trees maybe in Minnesota and one other spot that were not effected due to being isolated.
Once cut into rounds and split it will dry fast
