So tell me how you really feel about the 550xp.

I'm hoping it will be the one strong little saw I keep hearing about. I'm slowly getting rid of my excess fleet since I just cutting little bit of firewood anymore.

Going to attempt to just hang on to the 550, the two 372's on the 660. hey, 4 is better than 15....

I absolutely love mine, I need to sell my ms261 because I just never use it anymore.
I bought it from Brad and it was ported.
I have never ran a 346 and never ran a 550 stock. So can't really compare, but this one runs awesome and sounds even better. Starts great too.

I've often thought that, I find it so hard to sell the saws that I'm so fond of. I mean the 562 I just got would do everything I mostly ever need. But why not have a 385, 390, 3 or 4 372's, some 395's, some old Iron muscle and whatever else is hiding under the bench.

Congrats, Steve...I really think the 550 is a fine saw, it's just going through some teething pain. I'm never an early adopter. I prefer to let the bugs get worked out bf I plop down new saw money.

Impressive as well is the 562xp. Strongest 60cc I've ever run. Now if my 576AT would only wake up, it's a bit tight yet! As the Germans would say "good 'un tight" :msp_tongue:

I think you'll like the saw Steve. I know that mine is the first saw I grab. Mine has the squish set, ported, and muffler modded. The saw is great just MM'ed, but even better ported. It punches above its weight class.

Guess a 550xp will be my future. But will not let either 346 go...:angry2:

I MMd mine before I ever fired it up. In that configuration, it's the most impressive MMd only saw I've ever ran. My money's still on the 346 for the ultimate ported hotrod though. It's been shown that the MM on a 550 is good for about a 20%. From my single experience with one, that's where most of the gains came from. You've got to love a saw that gets those kinds of gains from only a MM and never needs tuned. That's a perfect work saw IMHO.

Can't decide whether I want to spend money and send my 346 out to be ported, or just buy a new 550.

Randy built a 550, 2153, and 261 and did a thread...guess which one was fastest????? Hint: it wasn't the first or last one in the list.

I ended up a little better than Brad. 20% from the MM, then another ~18% from the port work. Mine has had zero starting issues since it break in. Best fuel economy I've ever seen in a saw.

I'll always have two or three 372's kicking around. Well, when you don't need any of them but one...and you have thousands wrapped up in saws and parts and then you become a new home owner. I've got a bunch of stuff to fix/repair/upgraded on the house and that takes money i don't have... kinda like a new wood burning insert for my ineffiecient fireplace...lol

And i'm sure i'll tear it apart after running it a tank or two and set the squish and widen, smooth ports, etc

Yep, for a ported 50cc, I'll stick with the 346xp.

But MM'd only with AT, I'm liking the sounds of the 550xp!

That's what I came to find out about the 372 XT... I was surprised how everyone here didn't "like" them.. It took well to mods, has more torque than the old 372 and get almost twice the fuel milelage.. i was very impressed with the gains froms the little bit of work...

I still thank a ported 550 could be made to walk over a ported 346. It would probably take wrecking a few cylinders to find it though. Jmo. Look at the 562s vs the 365s. Take the 441s for example.....when they came out they werent even worth buying much less porting :msp_sneaky:, and look at them now since a few found out what they like.
