Looking at purchasing this saw. And was wondering if it is in good shape/what I need?

It will be used for cutting wood to split and general clean up of 2 acres. Mostly pine and smaller oaks. Guy is asking $200,but I've got him down to $175 without seeing saw. Needs a chain and fuel cap. And prob a tune up.

Waiting to hear from him on the serial # and if it has a chain brake or not.

Thanks guys!

Looks like a decent deal. Chain looks to have lots of life left looking at pictures. I would pull muffler off quick and check out the piston and cylinder before i bought it to make sure its good.

Thanks! Good to know. Also,is there anything to look for in particular when I meet him? He said it's hard to start, but once it does it runs fine.

Hard start could be week diaphram in carb. Dirty filter. Probly something simple.

That is a later model 028 because it has four bolts on the recoil. serial number is up by the muffler on the case. Looks like it has not been run to hard, I just sold an earlier wood boss with mag fuel tank and no chain brake for 150. that was not as nice as this one.

Welp I just got it home. Gonna pull muffler and check it out. Cord felt firm so hopefully everything is ok. And I'll try to get the serial #.

Looks like a lot of carbon buildup.

I couldnt make out inside of cylinder too good. No scratchs on piston or cylinder

Nope. Piston looked great. Got most of carbon out with brake cleaner and brass brush. New plug and 1/8 turn in on low screw and she fired right up. Some smoke, prob from cleaner and loose carbon. Chain wouldn't cut butter, but she idles nice and throttle is responsive.

She sounds real good Matt! Don't idle her on bare concrete unless you want to
scuff up the bottom. My 028 just goes and goes and......

Thanks Boozer! She's no beauty queen so a few more scuffs won't hurt. Can't wait to sink her in some wood and let her eat!

Anyone know what size chain is on this? Bar says 3/8 but googling, the teeth look like .325.
