I have an older 041 with the friction style recoil. It ate the starter rope and busted some stuff up. It melted the plastic ring inside the flywheel. And it also seems to have wrecked the plastic cup on the pulley. It can be seen on the IPL but is not given a part number.

Its the ring between numbers 4 and 11 seen below

Has anyone had any luck sourcing one of these? How crucial is it?

Ring is 1110 195 9301, more of a dust shield but they do keep things centered

Usually comes with the pulley 1110 190 1001, pressed into the hub

Check with your dealer before Fleabay, you'd be suprised what's still available for older saws with that Fairbanks-Morse type starter

You are a saint.

Thanks very much

Being in Canada presents multiple problems.

Our dollar is garbage so everything is 1.25x more expensive
Shipping is usually nuts, some of the rings on ebay want 15 bucks shipping
Or, like with the one you posted, they dont even ship to Canada

We will see how I deal with it I guess

It sure does but having good friends on the other side that will acquire parts and then ship them sure helps get those very scarce parts when absolutely necessary.

I actually misunderstood the dealer. The inner flywheel ring is available. It is the ring in question here and the gasket that are no longer available. Anyone ever had any luck cutting their own gasket? I may need to give it a go

Are you referring to the 1110 089 0500 round paper gasket that is sandwiched between the fanwheel
bottom & the flywheel top? If so, definitely make that one yourself.

no, it is the gasket between the fan cover and the fuel tank
