Stihl 046/460 differences?

Are there noticable performance or any other differences between the 046/460?

046 and 460 are pretty much the same. They just moved the numbers around to confuse us.

Just bought a 460 but never ran an 046 so I couldn't tell ya. Luv the 460 tho.

I love my 460.....but guys keep telling me that 046's will run a little better. Sort of makes me want to buy one.........just to see. I'd say they are the same though.:greenchainsaw:

the early ones had the magnum muffler(no baffle and stock dual port-or atleast some of them did) screw in caps and no limiter cap carb, and then they went to a baffle with a larger exhaust hole..and now they've got a baffle, small exhause port, flip top cabs and limiter cap carb

The 046s from before 1999 or so had a .3kW lower power rating than the later ones and the 460.

The 044 rating went up by .2kW at the same time.

I don't remember what the actual changes was, but I believe it is in the archives here.....
