I stumbled across a Stihl BLK 58 in poor condition and decided to do a semi-restoration on it. It's a semi restoration due to it being a non runner. It has good P&C and spark but has some mechanical tinkering remaining before she will start. I thought I would share the process for your entertainment.:msp_thumbup:

That's a beautiful piece of history you have there. Nice work on the resto. I'd love to see it running though;) What kind of paint did you use?

I found this saw one of the most difficult to remove the flywheel and reassemble it afterwards, without exposing the crank bearings to a lot of pressure. Glad you didn't have to go that far. The crank is a two piece unit and reassembly is a bit tricky. Did you check the crank bearing play and ignition yet ?

Very good job on the paintwork, that's where I suck bigtime...:monkey:

Just noticed your BLK has an unusual rare carb on it...is it a Tilly or Bing ? Most of the saws I have seen have the Pallas float type carb on it.

Thanks for the good comments. I also was warned about going beyond the crank bearings so I opted to play it safe. Yes, it has the Bing carburetor which has a frozen choke. I cannot find a kit or replacement so she is going to be a non runner for awhile. Just a looker for now.:msp_cool:
