I was at the Stihl dealer today picking up some parts and there on the counter sat a Stihl S-10. I asked whos it was, and the owner (standing right next to it) said "It's mine, I broke a recoil spring". He proceeded to tell me that he bought the saw for $10 fifteen years ago and has used it ever since. You just don't see them that old being used much anymore.. It was no prize gem, but it was in very good condition for still being in service.

Just thought I'd share.

I wonder if he also drove a Chevy s-10 that he bought for $15. Thats all the junk yard will give you for one because they're 90% rust.

Also, is the s-10 supposed to be the 010?

No, its not an 010 its probably and s-10 which is a rear handle version of the 08s :givebeer:

Yes, they are getting old but seem to be tough machines and if well taken care of I see no reason why one shouldn't still be in service after many of years

At the shop I have an 08s and and S10 both run start on 2nd pull and I take the on out cut a couple rounds every couple months to keep them in running order.
Crap I gotta edit how many saws you own thread I forgot about those two.

Acres site says introed in 1968 my math says 40 years old. Do you think there will be 40 year old wildthings still cutting down the road? Kinda validates Stihls engineering.:)

i've got one...have got it to hit a couple of times, but heavent had it "running". dad says he had it running several years ago. it makes a bad a$$ halloween prop. . . . very scary looking. oh and rest up before you pack it all over the nieghborhood.:dizzy: :dizzy: :dizzy: :dizzy:

Really, I knew the 08 and 08s and the 07 were top handle only but never knew there was a top handle s10. Thanks Brad learn something new all the time :)

Although my father sorta had one for awhile. I forget how but one time he cracked the barcover/oiltank on his 08 so for awhile he had a s10 barcover/oiltank on it. Made it look like a top handle s10 I suppose.

Stihl s-10s

I have two of these machines - they are very old, picked one up from a yard sale about 5 years ago for $20.00 and the other one was handed down to me in the 70s by my grandfather. They have been good saws over the years - both still running fine. I bounced one of them out of the back of my truck when I went over a big rock which subsequently had a big hole on the other side - unfortunately the chainsaw landed on the fuel cap cracking it. It now leaks fuel - so I don't use it. I have not been able to find a replacement fuel cap - so any help from you guys where I can find a replacement will be greatly appreciated. I have considered reconditioning them - but finding parts is a big issue. And, my job doesn't allow me time anymore to dedicate a restoring effort to both of them. I don't know much about chainsaws - but I guess I just keep them because they are old and still function like they were suppose to except for the need of the replacement fuel cap.

Stihl S10 Parts

Can anyone tellme where to get parts for my Stihl S10? Thiss hasn't been run in almost 10 years and I want to rebuild it it and put it in some wood. I used this saw as a kid and I haven't found a saw that can cut as smooth and straight since.
