A lot of one of my stacks of milled oak have started splitting on one end. Would it be good to cut the ends off and re-seal them after the cracks, or is it just destiny to be split.
inch and a quarter thick x 8 to 16 wideHow wide and how thick are they?
yes, they were in the sun, but not all the timeAre the stack in the sun on ends splitting?
Coat log ends as soon as you buck them.
Summertime, we stacked in the shade.
A 16" board will almost always crack.inch and a quarter thick x 8 to 16 wide
And need to be free of any defects.A 16" board will almost always crack.
Yes, sometimes wood really is just junk... and then it goes to Home Depot. LOLI'm sure others will have better advice, but yes that's what I would do. Another bit if advice i was given is. Sometimes wood is just junk. Just takes time to realize it.
You haven't been to Menards, have you?Yes, sometimes wood really is just junk... and then it goes to Home Depot. LOL
Not OakYes, sometimes wood really is just junk... and then it goes to Home Depot. LOL
Yep, there daily and they will never have a Oak board 16" wide that is not properly ripped into roughly 4" boards and glued together. If they have a 16" it is probably made from 1.5-3" piecesYou haven't been to Menards, have you?
Huge difference between construction grade (softwood) lumber and cabinet grade (hardwood) lumber. I am not a fan of Menards, Lowes, or Home Depot but I will assure you the hugely overpriced hardwood lumber they sell will be a good quality.................well at least here.
I know, so is some of the poop Menards sells. Here is a bit of a side note to anyone who might buy lumber from a hardwood mill. Some will try to sell "hobbyists" on 3-4-5's. Those are the reject ends from longer FAS boardsIt...was....a.....joke......
