I have a 92 Topkick with a 3116 cat engine in it. There is a cylinder shaped device just below the drivers side door that oil runs through. This thing is leaking oil pretty bad. I was told that it is another filter for the engine and it is unneeded. I was told that it can be diconnected and it wont hurt the engine. Is this true? What exactly is this thing called if I need to get a new one?

Thanks NC

its prob a puradyne externail filter, not nessary to have if you do regular oil changes. actually can cause damage if you never changed the filter and it gets gunked up, but then again im a pushy salesman so screw me

I do believe we had one on our topkick (Altec DB45) and had it removed.
There is a name for it,,, luberfiner???
FWIW we had lots of issues with that same truck.
Hope you dont have any injection problems as it gets real spendy.
It seemed to spend half its life in the shop.

its an oil centrifuge, keeps the oil clean. extends oil drain intervals, might filter down to 2mic., clean the soot cake out and install new gaskets.
