Hey guys need some help here.
Got a big score the other day and I thought I was getting pretty good at this tree identification thing but when I got it home neighbor seems to think it sweet gum? I thought it was red oak.
What say you guys?

Thanks

It looks like red oak. Does it have a really pungent smell to it? Red oak (at least up here in MA) has a powerful aroma when it's cut and split. Tends to go away after seasoning for a few months.

On the left - red oak

On the right - cherry

Scratch that - not sure about the left. Can't really get a good look at the bark. Pretty sure about the cherry though.

Looks like good wood altogether though.

Well I think the majority is right on this one calling it Cherry. I thought red oak right away but when I cut the longest in half to fit into the trailer I couldn’t smell that distinctive smell that red oak has.
I learned something today and that’s I had no idea cherry trees got that big.
Thanks for taking the time to help me figure it out.
