Hello and thank you in advance for answers. I have a diseased Crimson King Maple., this is result of a spring 2011 outbreak of anthracnose. The tree defoliated and had just a few viable lower branches over the summer with the top and south-southwest side of the tree never getting new leaves. This year the tree is in the dying stage with only one major branch having any buds. The south-southwest side of the tree looks dead and the bark is cracked and peeling. My question is the possibility of regrowth from the stump once the tree is cut down. Is there a method of cutting the stump to help start the regrowth or should I pamper a sucker branch that has already started?
