For those of us not so up to speed with timing numbers, I’m guessing the piston shouldn’t be visible at BDC?

No it shouldn't.
Could the base of the cylinder be machined?
I too do not see a problem, it will run fine.

Numbers after I got done working on it. I think it will be fine too, haven't seen it before.
Not a big deal as long as the squish is right. Have seen it before and I think it is a result of the company matching together components from two different saws to save production costs, that cylinder probably was meant for an engine with a slightly longer stroke.

That makes sense. Squish is .020 before gasket
I'm more worried about the missing cylinder hold down screw.

Checking squish and degrees. One screw in one corner other screw crossways from that one. It has all 4 lol. Good eye though

Nearly every saw I’ve been into is the same. It’s quite rare to find one where the piston isn’t showing at bdc
