It is about 17F currently in Central Ohio. The low for this coming weekend is suppose to be 7F.

I have been burning alot of red oak, maple, black locust, hickory, and poplar. The house stays pretty warm ( 73F - 76F ) as long as the fire is going good. We heat a three year old 1400sq ft modular ranch with a Vermont Castings Dutchwest with a catalytic converter. I only burn about 1 - 1.5 cords a year.

The pic is the wood pile in the garage. I burn most of that by the end of January and then bring the wood cart into the garage and refill it for the rest of the year. ;)

Treeco that is a beatiful stove! Hope to talk Mama into a Jotul in the next year or two. How many BTU is it rated for?

Whole house is heated by an ol Siegler stove in the living room, our target temp is 85 in the living room. If it is 85 there then it's 75 in the bedroom, 68 in the bathroom, 65 in the.................and so and so on. Gotta love the old farmhouses :angry2:

We're burning Red Oak and Red Elm with a little Silver Maple, can get about 4-5 hour burn with each load. They are calling for a low of 7 here tonight, ought to be fun!

Just looked at the thermometer and its 13 here in southern Indiana. Have my heat pump on and the insert going with black cherry that was bought last Feb. when I first bought the house. I sure wish my glass on my insert was as clean as some I have seen.

I just split a face of poplar today and then read its junk. I will learn someday, even if it kills me.

Mostly red oak, hickory(the cadillac of firewood), birch, some box elder, and some big 34" cull logs I cant identify, but are burning quite nicely.

Its already down to 10 degrees outside, so we're trying to keep it in the high 60s/low 70s.

Free heat always is the best heat!

The combo wood/oil boiler down in the cellar is stoked with jack pine...not the best firewood btu wise but the house stays a nice toasty 75-80 on about 4-5 cords a year.

Just stoked my stove for the night and was wondering what everybody else was burning today. It is about 8F right now and mostly box elder and some crab apple will keep me warm tonight.

Zero right now in SW Minnesota heading towards -17 F Sunday night. My Kozy Heat is STOKED with ash and oak. I've used about 100 gallons of propane this season so far - at $1.45 a gallon.

I think I'm burning around 200 lbs a day in this cold and wind. Maybe more. If I didn't have the fireplace and wood, my propane usage would be at least 300 gallons a month. Yikes

Man you guys got he cold up there  coldest its been here has been 12F and i thought that was cold!!! I've got plenty of red and white oak some cherry lots of maple and locust to keep me warm just in case!

I got the flu, so no fire and all windows open. That'll change in oh, about 15 minutes. :bang:

Im surprised none a you rednecks mentioned yer ol hound dogs all piled up in bed with ya.
:hmm3grin2orange:

Thanks. It actually looks better in person.....the flash brightens it up quite a bit but it's really a dark blue/black. I believe it's rated at 82,000 btu.

We have a ten year old Jotul CB3 we are going to install in the bedroom/master-bath. Our place is over 3,000 sq. ft. and was built in 1890. I'm still working to tighten it up and insulate it. All of our wood if from trees we charge to remove.

What kind of burn times do you get with it? Jotul's site claims 10+ but I'm skeptical of that. They also say it's 465 pounds so each yer wheaties when ya go to move it.

Temp at 18 right now, headed down to near zero in a couple days. The arctic express is firing up and everyone out east of the divide needs to get the coats ready.

Just closed the patio door and opened the draft again about an hour ago (house overheated). Willow all day except when it needs a boost then a chunk of Ash gets the temps up there. Oddly, willow will hold fire all night but ash would be out in the morning. I burn a lot of willow as it is free for the cutting and nearby. Not good wood but not the poorest either.

-2 degrees this morning on my mountain. I burn 20% dried white oak and 80% big vein coal in my boiler. It works great and nice and toasty in the mornings also. :biggrinbounce2:

The dog in front of the stove. fireplace extrordinair. This stove keeps the house plenty warm on the coldest nights and heats the whole house evenly due to the fact that it forces outside air into the house (after heating it)

How much you paying for wood up there Jim? I can get oak delivered here for $130/cord.

I don't even want to talk about...

Is the oak you are getting seasoned well? The stuff I got (mixed hardwoods) seemed heavy to me when I was bringing it in, but its burning great...much better than I hoped.

I haven't paid for any wood. I can get so much for free (I'm sure you don't want to hear about that!) that I can't see paying for it.
