What wood is this?

Cottonwood or Oak.
I wondered the oak thing as it’s pretty heavy but also still green.
Does it smell? How about a pic of one split ,any leaves from the tree?
If it is cottonwood it will split down the center with great difficulty and the resulting split will be Z shaped. After 100# dries you will have about 25# of wood assuming you keep it dry
It’s some sort of oak, it ain’t maple.
Copy that the yard was cleaned before I got there it was free and close so I went and picked it up.
Chestnut Oak has the big furrowed bark.
Copy ya last oak I got was pretty shallow bark that’s y I wasn’t sure
show us twigs or endgrain. Cottonwood twigs will be quite bulbous, oak end grain will show the rays
All branches were gone when I got there. I’m sure there are some there laying around but it’s not to important to me was just wondering if anyone could tell by the logs.
Cottonwood. Not a chance in the world that's red maple. Cottonwood. Someone above made it clear--that entire load will weigh nothing when it's dry. Worthless firewood, though some like it.
The heartwood sure looks dark--that's the only thing that throws me. But everything else screams cottonwood.
Yup the center looks a bit like Oak but the bark looks like Cottonwood.
cottonwood that I have cut had dark heartwood. I cut it only out necessity!!!
sometimes when I am in the woods looking at a tree I have to look at bark, twigs, endgrain and leaves to be absolutely certain, every species will have some variation. The I go to visit mom in south Mississippi and have to start all over again because they look different down there.

That’s funny. We have poplar here but this seems way to dense imo. I’m in Indiana btw.
Looks like a Cottonwood which is a type of Poplar.
It would have been an easy ID if the leaves or fruit/seeds were still on site and seen.
That a pretty big one too.
Looks like the saw that cut it needs serious chain sharpening as well.
I don't see any chips but lots of fine powder.
