Had a saw burn up after only 7 months of use. What would the effect of running a couple of tanks of rubbing alcohol be to a saw piston and cylinder?
Repair facility said someone ran straight gas through the saw, but that was not the case. Factory said description of damage to the piston and cylinder was not consistant with running straight gas. Nothing else was found. Carb was OK, mixture OK, rev limit OK, seal check OK.....
I have my suspicions, but they are not to be discussed in public.

Opinions?

Straight alcohol would not only run lean in a saw set up for gas, it would be running without oil if it would run at all. Isn't it common sense what would happen?

rrriiiiiiiiggghhhhhhhhhhhttttttttttttt.

well, it's either sabotage or conspiracy.
some idiot sabotaged his saw with a dose of isopropyl or some gov agency wanted to rid the u.s. of two-strokes and upped the ethyl content of gasoline to kill em all off.
