I would check with a local forester. State or independent.

They will have a pretty good idea for your area.

I'm not trying to hi-jack, but I have a similar question: Does burr oak and White oak fetch the same price for the same grade? I've always wondered that, as well as chinqapin.

Log prices can be all over the map due to a variety of factors. Size, quality of the surfaces, conditions they were grown on, conditions they were harvested (muddy, clean, etc). Your best bet is to contact some local sawmills in your area. They will buy either directly or through a forester and they will be able to scale the logs and give you a value even before they are cut. A forester will also advise which trees should be cut and which should be left for future cutting.

Woodfinder (http://www.woodfinder.com/) is a good place to start in that you can find custom sawyers and sellers and they will point you in the direction of how and from whom they buy.
