all winter. If the temps are below 40 I'm cutting&splitting bout' every weekend.

Summer time I do odd roped-tree trimming jobs on weekends when my friend calls me in to hang from my petzl ascender and gri-gri on srt. And even then, I don't really know what I'm doing lol as I would rather be climbing mountains not frigg'n trees...but the mountains don't pay.

Drying wood for a year is, of course, ideal. When it comes to scrounging I will put the regular jobs aside and go get the wood before someone else gets to it. This year a buddy and I are taking locust and ash out of an area cleared for new condos, and dividing up 9-12 cords of maple and beech with a guy who cleared some land to build a new house. This will set me up for next year. Gives my 3.5 acres a years rest and, at $300/cord for dry wood, helps us feel like we're paying ourselves well for our time.
