I just shipped my first saw to Canada.
It was a 028Super that weighed (with box and packing) about 14 lbs.

Went to UPS and was quoted $91!!!!!!!

Went to USPS and it was still $51!!!!

I have seen that a bunch of you guys ship back and forth from US to Canada....

Where did I go wrong, or is this the going rate? I had figure $20-25.....

Thanks!

USPS is your best bet because UPS/FedEx charges you "brokerage" fees. $51 seems to be about right to ship an entire saw to our northern neighbor.

Now if you were to ship something under 4lbs you can use the cheaper First Class International Mail, versus the Priority Mail you probably used on the saw,

From what I can tell :dizzy:...

The fees from UPS, FdX, etc., include a brokerage fee which can be quite high.

The USPS doesn't charge a brokerage fee, but if the package exceeds a certain overall size the price jumps dramatically. Postal rates also vary greatly depending on which service you use & what extras you add.

There is a very good thread here that discusses shipping from the US to Canada and other countries.

I got a c-5 homie shipped here, cost 74 bucks.

You have to want a saw pretty bad or get it almost free.

The fees from UPS do not include a brokerage fee, the brokerage fee is slapped upon the reciever upon delivery, a minimum $35.00 charge.

I had a warranty part shipped from MA or NY for my washing machine, no charge.....brokerage fees from the mighty brown turd, $271 and change, needless to say i did not accept the delivery, and ended up having whirpool ship the part to a friend in the states, and I paid the shipping. Many US businesses and consumers fail to understand why UPS is dreaded here in Canada.
I refuse to use UPS even domestically here in Canada, when I see one of there trucks pull into the yard at the house or at work, i feel like heading out the lane guns a blazing!

You might be happy to know (if you don't already) that there are two class action suits against UPS (as well as others against FEDEX) in Canadian Courts:

I have to ship to Canada alot in my job, it is a PITA and it is expensive

I hear that a lot, which is interesting because I've had to ship a fair number of things south through Canada Post, and it seems to be no more trouble than shipping domestically.
