Your brain and common sense is the best tool.

If you have a saw that won't even fire with a squirt of fuel into the engine is fairly simple to run down.

Unless you listen to folks having you chase silly tangents....

If you don't have pressure/vacuum, then you have major compression problems!!!

Well I asked him to check the simplest of things the pulse. It drives the fuel pump. He has a new top that has not been pressure or vacuum tested. What part of that do you think a gun would fix and help him narrow down the problem.

The pulse only pumps the diaphram of the fuel pump, the shot of fuel into the carb bypasses that.

Explain this gun, and how you use it?

If the vacuum of the engine doesn't suck in the fuel/air mixture, then there must be some major trouble!!!!

If you had no carb or impulse line even on the saw, it should at least fire {vroom} then die when the engine is primed..

If it doesn't even do that, then you know
that the problem {this problem} lies elsewhere.

A simple daub of grease will start that ball rolling. First timer with a self installed top.

Stihl trains their techs to use the gun it's simple and it shows you the problem.

It could be a lot of things. You start simple and roll on

Think about the pressure and vacuum of combustion. How you going to measure it's soundness. The essence of a chainsaw. I will say it again you need to go buy one and play with it and then you should feel shame for being set in your ways

You get the basics out of the way and then start going after the timing and the spark and such.
