I'm usually pretty good but this has me stumped. Wood is soft but surprisingly heavy. image.jpgimage.jpg image.jpg

My guess is basswood/linden. I burned a fair bit of it. When dry it is lighter than pine.

Was thinking cottonwood or some type of poplar but would really like to know exact species. Either way, it's going in my owb but I just want to know.

A storm blow down in someone's yard. Have a live one to cut down on Monday when I finish the job. Was on my phone earlier but will check the links now.

Certainly not Bradford pear. Am thinking one of the cottonwoods, possibly black.

You have POPLAR, soft wood, heavy with water, punky smell, diamond shapes on the bark. Where it's dark and discolored in the center will be soft due too rotting.
That narrows it down. What kind of poplar? Aspen, cottonwood, etc..
