4400 rpm's which equates to a 1.25" driver spinning 28" of chain so 73.333 rps x 28" = 171.11 feet per second? Sorry BobL I know this stuff but I'm in my study and blowing the froth of of more than one. I'll get back at it tomorrow and use pi. Cheers

I doubt the 4400 rpm is the chain rpm, more like the sprocket rpm.
If the diameter of the sprocket is 1.25" then that's 1440 fpm or 24 fps.
Compare that to 3/8" 7 pin of 1.45" @ 10,000 rpm = 63 fps.
It won't matter for narrow cuts but could come into play for thicker cuts.

I like that. It brings me back to the idea I have of mounting an electric motor to a drill press to plunge cut mortises. I make slab furniture where I have about a 3" mortise. A plunge cut on each end and connect the dots. Faster than a chisel, and straighter than a sawzall, Joe.
