It is an 026 and the guy was trying to rebuild it. Somebody "ported" it for him. Turns out the crank bearings were bad, partly missing. Don't know that story. But, he didn't want to try and split the case so he just gave it to me in a box. It is a new OEM Stihl cylinder.

Having found a few of those myself I say give a whirl. Never found a keeper however learn a bit each time, there are a few special 026 cylinders around here. Cheap entertainment.

Yeah, All I will have in it is some Chinese bearings, seals, and a case gasket. Might run fine, who knows.

Well, it is rather amazing what you can do with an ordinary round file to reshape openings in castings. Why not give that a try?

Yea why not, just make sure there are no sharp edges on the ports for the ring to hang up on, who knows maybe the turbulence that's created will make it scream.

As Snelling mentioned how port work can be more of an art in the porting question thread....this is a classic example of why he said that.

I would throw it back together and check the port timing. You might be able to tidy up the ports and make it work well. It looks like someone with Parkinsons disease had their first attempt at using a die grinder.

I would clean up what's there making ports symmetrical and run it. No sense in just tossing it. Culls should not be porting nice OEM cylinders. Hutzl got a nice line up for cull grade porting if they must.

If it won't hang a ring I'd bevel the port edges and check where there at, I'd do all I could to save it. Intakes can b fixed with devcon or jb weld.

It makes me feel really good about my abilities, though they ain't perfect. I'd clean it up a bit and run it.. perhaps if the exhaust is too high you could mitigate that by machining the base and setting squish.

I am all about aftermarket stuff. I have had bad luck with aftermarket seals on 026. Oem only for me for seals anyway.

I vote bevel the **** out of it give it a shot.
