For some time now I have been wanting to construct a workstand to hold a saw still whilst wrenching. I finally found the time. I am not sure if this is the finished product, but it is a start.

The base (1/2" MS plate), and the lower column (2.5" 1018 CR round). The column is welded to the base from a through hole in the base.

The upright (2" 1018 CR round). Lower portion turned to fit the bore in the column and a groove added for the lock screw. Shoulder milled for mounting bar and hole tapped M20.

Mounting bar (1.375 X .75 1018 MS). Slots milled for bar studs and mounting bolt. Relief cut for chain adjuster.

Stand assembled. The column and upright have a .0015" slip fit.

Workstand in use. C-clamped to the bench until I determine the correct location.

Hope you like it!!

atta boy John! When you cut metal for a living, it's hard to find the motivation to make stuff like that for yourself in your free time.

Well.....ummm.....the truth is I made it at work while the machine was running 5 hour cycles....

A tool that gets the job done is all that really matters!

We had a thread up earlier last year I think, about making these saw holders and there were several different models made by different members, mine used a ball joint that allows it to rotate and tip at various angles to allow for easy access to any part of a saw. It`s crude but it does get the job done.

Beautiful. Looks clean and well made. I am sure that you could sell those as a side line if you regularly have that kind of time.

One more view for those that asked...the mount to the bar studs has a hole in the end, then the slot to accept different bar stud spacing options. I've used this on multiple McCulloch saws including the 10 Series and Mini Mac's, several larger Jonsered saws (621, 910, 930) and a few others.

As I said, mine it rude and crude and made up from whatever scraps I could find, but it works for me.

Looks fine to me. One of these days after the 100 other projects I am in the middle of:dizzy: I will throw something together.
