I have 5 Birch trees that got bent over from a very heavy snowstorm last march. They got bent over too much and it looks like I either cut them down or try to strighten them. They are only 1.5 to 2.5" in dia but 25-35' tall. If I can get them tied up straight, how long will I need to keep them tied up?

Single trunk

They were thin and tall, mostly protected from the wind. I started them in pots around 1990 and planted them about '95. I was planning on cutting them loose next summer?

Check with your local Extension Service or Consulting Forester. But, from our experience once birches are pushed or blown over they cannot be trained to stand upright again.

Paper/White Birch is a weak species; grows often too quickly without a supporting thick trunk.

Firewood.
