I had to come out of forum retirement to say that this is one bad ass rig!!! A S55-A with 2' bar and helper handle, OMG I love it. I'm also in the similar situation of 'finding' awesome stuff that I've had for years while I'm currently working on a 7-10.

Very interesting find Mark!! I had to look it up: PRO MAC 105, not a SP. A rigid mount hybrid in-between the 795 and 105 apparently.

Did you just get your 850 block within the last couple weeks? I had an 800 up there that I just got back and I know the guy who deals with US chrome sent another one in with mine (for Bob J). They're apparently swamped with work, won't even answer the phone unless you're a dealer. Anyways...

It's easy to mess up even when you know to look for it. For some reason, when you're working on it upside down and putting the rod on the crank when the piston is down on the bench, it's easy to lose the orientation. Eric

Are you sure it wasn't leaking past the fuel line where it passes through the tank into the carb box? Did you wrap it with Teflon tape? That is SOP on any 10 series for me. I can't speak on the Viton gasket but I use 3/32" square O-ring stock, Buna N. Fit it into the groove, trim long, then...

I've had to file down the heads of quite a few of these screws. Not a bunch, just a flat file and get those raised outside edges off. Look at the inside of the starter cover, it could have a circle worn into it where it was contacting, that would be the evidence you need. Eric

Those are a rare bird. If you want to sell it, I'm sure a few people would be interested.

Where does that vent line come out at? It's really long, I've never noticed that before.

I didn't get a chance to try it, that was my plan for next time. I re-used them and snapped one - it was so disheartening. I was showing Brock my little 1/4" drive torque wrench - one click too many. Maybe I'll get some button head screws, they're 120ksi tensile.

That's too bad it's not flat. I did think of one more piece of advice: Don't re-use the 6 crankcase screws that hold the flywheel side bearing housing. Get some grade 8 Allen head screws. I snapped one when I was torqueing them down in my 660 - to spec actually. That set off a horrible...

That's a bummer about the stuffer. The part number is 60251 and it looks specific to the S250 and saws that had an auto oiler on them, like the 440 and 550 are two I found. I'm going to guess that you could modify a regular 250 or 300 stuffer by drilling a hole for the oiler impulse signal...

You're sucking air. My next guess would be bad reed valve. They get warped or burned on the edges. I rebuilt a 660 with a Tilly carb, new reeds, new seals, and it will sit and purr like a kitten, idling away. And it revs up and fricking rips! Stick with it, you'll be rewarded.

I would check to make sure you're impulse holes aren't being covered up by the gaskets or misaligned somehow. Eric

I plan on it when it warms up!! Cutting frozen wood with full chisel chain sucks. Then we can see if my crank repair will hold. I basically welded up the keyway and ground and filed it smooth. Ran the clutch nut down with an impact and hope she holds!!

One super cool thing about the bar is that it was originally a hard nose Mac bar. Someone spliced the Oregon roller nose on, and did a great job of it. It's very faint because I polished up the bar and clear coated it but you can see the weld in a V-pattern. Courtesy of glennerdog on ebay...

Hey guys, this project has come a long ways. From a pile of parts - most with defects, a SP125 motor that was in a Kart and sheared the clutch key, and parts from Earlton, NY to Port Hardy, British Columbia, and everywhere in between, even IOWA!!!!! Here you go:

I would say it is, all my SP80/81/60s have a hard rubber handle. The 850s and 800s have the softer foam. Nice setup though! I like the roller starter.

I was going to ask if anyone else has ever heard of a saw running backwards. I know an older guy who's cut wood all his life, still does and he's probably in his mid 70s. He told me that he saw an old Mac with the top starter, like a D36, kick back when trying to start and run backwards. He's...

    Cutting ice for spearing

The guys who spear fish in Wisconsin on Lake Winnebago use grease guns attached the the clutch cover and handlebar. The rakers are taken all the way down and they narrow the profile of the tooth. This is a Double Eagle 80 that I don't believe was used to ever cut any wood, just holes in the...
