    What would you charge?

The yellow brick road (to the Boston suburbs) is not paved with cord wood, nor can anyone realize any profit from the undertaking unless there is a wood processor involved. He'd be better off cutting lawns, and offer the saw work as an "extra". Trust me, I tried that road.

    Husqvarna 266SE

If I could sell all 7 of my 266 saws for $500 each I'd do it tomorrow...and mine are all OEM, some with new everything and no run time. That price is too high unless you know for sure what's in it.

    Crank seal Install kit?

I usually machine my own installers on the lathe from 6061 round stock using dimensions in the husky manuals...quick and easy. sometimes the mfg will have the tools available, but usually saw specific..

266XP Air Filter getting very dirty very fast (sucking sawdust)

there is a third plate, it has a 90-degree bent tab, that covers the oil pimp exit and matches the raised boss of the crankshaft for the bar mount... p/n 501 81 48-01

266XP Air Filter getting very dirty very fast (sucking sawdust)

FYI, you are missing the nylon chain guide, p/n 501 51 72-01, from the clutch cover. It's probably missing from the crankcase as well, along with inner protection plate p/n 501 81 48-01, and bar guides 501 44 45-01 & 501 44 44-01. Since it's thrown the chain at lest once, chain catcher 501 68...

266XP Air Filter getting very dirty very fast (sucking sawdust)

That is correct, but the hole in the crankcase should only be large enough for the fuel hose to pass through...are you missing the grommet? it is not in any of your photos (it is hard to imagine it could all come from there). Also, double check the crankcase to sealing collar fit (the lower half...

266XP Air Filter getting very dirty very fast (sucking sawdust)

What are you using for a "fuel line"? the OEM fuel line looks "like a snake that swallowed an egg" and seals where it passes through the crankcase casting: p/n501 28 59-02

266XP Air Filter getting very dirty very fast (sucking sawdust)

I have several 226 top covers and some of them are slightly different where the sealing collar contacts the underside: some a straight and some have that wave or dimple. you want to make sure there is full contact. Also, is the air inductor installed? it like like much of the dust is entering on...

266XP Air Filter getting very dirty very fast (sucking sawdust)

Is sealing collar 501 68 64-01 installed and installed properly? Also: from service bulletin x82.017 "Under certain hard dust conditions it has shown, that a superior filter function is obtained if the rubber bellows (part 501 51 24-01) around the throttle lever is disassembled".

looks to me as though the chain is not sharpened properly: your saw is making dust, not chips as it should. review your sharpening technique.

    Husky 266XP and 268XP issues

more leaking crankshaft seals...when you close a needle all the way and the saw still runs, that means it's getting air some place other than the carburetor. more often than not on those older saws (remember most are mid-80's and are nearing 40-years no one has bothered to do the simple seal...

    Husqvarna 61 wont idle

agreed...crank seals. the give away is the low speed "non" adjustment.

    Husky 181se carb advice needed

Throttle link on the 288 carb is different as it uses a roller instead of a fixed (bent wire) link: either the throttle arm or the carberetor throttle shaft needs to be exchanged to use a 281/288 carb on a 181. Non-governed carbs were available for the 181...all my dealer literature indicates...

    Husqvarna 242xp Questions

Pressure & vacuum test the crankcase. figure out why the first piston failed. The 242 shares a bearing seal assy on the pto side with the 238 and similar which is prone to failure. Last I knew the seal was back in limited production (3 or 4 years ago), but when it wasn't, lots of saws were sold...

Husqvarna 262xp has too much bar oil coming out

there is an adjuster hiding behind the clutch drum...straight blade screw driver (the "tuning" one works well here) used in the "groove" between the plus and minus

    Husky 268 & 42 special, Value?

seals have been made available in the last six months. I just put a set in two days ago. P&C is the real shortfall.
