I've seen some weird stuff myself on these New oem bearings....clean smooth and degrease case...1184. Done :)

I used to keep bearings in the freezer. Now I definitely don't bother with that. Bearings end up with condensation on them ....not the best.

Yup....just take it to firm torque. You can feel it when it stops moving and is fully seated. Sometimes I still install with heat but often I get bearings stuck halfway and need to use the bolt anyway.

I use the husky clamp style splitter for the most part. Works fine :)

Just a piece of 1/2" threaded rod.....and some nuts and washers

gotta remember, most of the versions of tools that are out there put lateral forces on the bearing when you are pulling the crank through my tools pull using the inner race only, so there's no risk to the bearings :)

Usually the cylinder sits on a gasket...removing this gasket (and replacing it with just sealer) tightens the distance between the top of the piston and the cylinder at top dead center increasing compression. Sometimes there is room to do this ...sometimes not. Gotta be careful :)
