I hit metal and now make crooked cuts

Think agriculture. If I plough in a field with my tractor, and the depth of the plough is set differently on my left relatively on the right, have three discs on the left & one disc on the right there will be a tendency to pull skew.

Saw cutting crooked? Check your drive links

Always cutting as close to the ground as possible & picking up sand or nicking the gravel, would also cause uneven wear on one side of the cutters.

    Clueless homeowners and their saws

Joke: Son; "I wish I'd listened when my Dad was showing me." Reply; "What did he say & what was he showing you ? " Son; "Don't know. I wasn't listening & I was looking elsewhere !!"

chainsaw safety / falling safety videos.

The safety issue can be incorporated AND you should also know some "8 ways to fall a tree" before you incorporate; triple hinge, intentional barber chair or snap cuts

Is there some reason for the hardness variation in chain cutters and gauges?

Sometimes we inflict our own pain by overheating the chain & then spraying it cool with WD40 or a water sprayer, because GBar is too hot to touch. No wonder we can't get the file to make the right noise, while hand filing. ❓

    Depth gauge tool

Progressive Filing System. This attachment has most of the instructions because it is a "system". iow.The chain cutters must be sharp in conjunction with having the depth gauge rakers reduced to the appropriate height. I prefer to start with a kickback UNfriendly chain, and a kickback...

    Depth gauge tool

I use the Husqvarna chain sharpener on all my .325 , ⅜P and ⅜" chains. (You need to do a once-off widening touch up with a file & keep it separate/ marked for the .063"/1.6mm width STIHL chains) The only reason I use a McCulloch on the ¼" Universal (same design using a ⅛" file) is because I...

    Rim Sprocket Wear?

Just like the GBar should be flipped every once in a while, so too the rim sprocket. That way you don't only get longer life & even wear, but also get a chance to inspect the components for burrs, hairline cracks respectively.

    Husqy 334T Problemos

If choking was necessary to start a warm engine, your carb might've been set too lean. (More air/less fuel) , BUT your 2stroke oil is mixed with the fuel. Result, more heat generated, less lubrication > tends to high revolutions & engine failure. (worse still if you constantly run out of fuel.)...

Toasted my clone ms660 on amsoil at 100:1

There is a compound already discovered, implemented, & outlawed, etc. It's called LEAD (Pb) but because it protects the engines so well it is for your benefit, NOT from sales, retailer's point of view !!

Toasted my clone ms660 on amsoil at 100:1

Two stroke Chainsaw engine : Whatever my ratio is is speculative, work it out because the fuel "measured" is according to the reading on the dial at the pump. There are two options : a) rinse the container with the first squirt of gas/fuel and dump/discard it with the fine dirt, followed by...

Square Grinding the almost dead chains

imo. First do the gullet with a round file for whatever strokes needed, then finish off with only one stroke (two if it's icy cold) with your a) SaveEdge or b) one size larger round intensive cut manual file. Regardless of the filing method used; I would NOT recommend using a chain in a tree...

    Big holzfforma black Friday sale!

You also need to check the difference between what is ADVERTISED and what is linked to the SEARCH ENGINE. eg.Here they advertise a 58cc and a 62cc Chainsaw using the 75cc search engine (so because you searched: "75cc powered chainsaw" , are looking for a 75cc THEN you subconsciously ONLY see...

A good book for felling techniques? (PDF)

Professor. the "Enquiring Mind" wants to know how things have progressed from the theory into the practice? I have found that hangups are not a problem if you want the tree to strip the other trees of their foliage on the way down AND you don't get hurt in the process. (You might even force a...

    Advice on drying cedar poles

I would normally use the trunk for woodwork, but I think the idea of using the branches is great. a) Because they grow densely in a J-shape I'd assume to make the natural railing WHILE WET and tie / tension them on a wooden frame & allow to dry in the sun. (Just like black-wattle natural...

    3120XP or MS880?

    With your feet on the ground - you might not. But, with felling above ground and requiring > 28" guide bar the 120cc engine comes in handy for sure {re. TimberBeast} {Image for demonstration purposes only}
