    Identify this tree please?

Ok. Pulled a chunk of bark off a dead known white Ash, and placed it over this unknown tree. Dead ash is on top. I found the heal over circle interesting. Here is a close up of the barks

    Identify this tree please?

Yes. Just a little east of Woodstock Ontario. White Ash has been devastated in my area and many causes of power outages. Looking on line, I thought the bark resembled that of Beech as well! Maybe I will grab a known chunk of white ash bark and lay it on this tree and take a pic.

    Identify this tree please?

So, I stand corrected. Working on that monster tree and managed to pull some bark off where it broke hitting the ground. I did find the bug trails beneath the bark. This tree just seems so different to the usual ash I have been dealing with. Definitely root rot. Also had a massive ball at the...

    Identify this tree please?

Not to argue and I appreciate the responses, but I truly don’t think it’s ash. I have taken down at least 30 ash and this is different from my observations. The top did not break off. The bark is remaining on the tree as compared to the other ash I have taken down. There is no trails beneath...

    Identify this tree please?

Rather old tree, dead and blown down. Grew with a bowl at the base. About 30 inches in diameter. Thanks for your input.

    Who has seen this before?

I find this fallen tree interesting, but maybe it’s common. Dead ash fell on its own. Got hung up in other trees. I guess it’s about 80 ft tall and maybe 16 -18inches at the base. Base came up as the top came down. Tree is about 12 feet in the air!

    MS 170 Decompression valve?

About 2 yr old 170. Hasn't seen alot of use. Runs great....but a little issue. Usually after warm up and some cutting. Go to restart it and it acts like a high compression issue..and I need to hit the decompression valve. But I don't believe it has one. Initial pull of the cord and it's almost...

I have an ash tree crisis!

Doesn't really help ya Mustang but I'm in the same boat. Been taking down dead ash for 4 years. Selling it cheap for firewood....just to get rid of it...started with trees that would cause damage. And I only have a couple saws and a splitter. I have a great neighbor with a backhoe that helps...

I'm not sure how the fuel system is configured. Sounds like the tank was pressuring? Excess heat causing fuel to expand pressuring tank? Heat tape applied to gas tank ?

When is a bar actually worn out?

Thanks for all the tips. I tried OM617YOTA suggestion with a file clamped to a small chunk of hardwood.....on an old bar. Worked great. Rails look even and straight. Only took about 10 mins. A little more touch up and a bevel and Im done. Will check chain for fit and give it a try next time I...

Thanks guys. Ive got lots of time on my hands and dont mind messing around with stuff. I will try a new file....not sure I can get rails perfectly flat at 90 degrees with my ol shaky hands. When is a bar actually worn out?

How many of you use a belt/disc sander to correct uneven rails? Good idea or no? A file seems to take forever?
