    The obvious answer is both.

    MS241 and MS201 rear handle

This is where I start to question the 200/201. If it won't be seeing wood over 4", why not get the 2511wes which is three (THREE) pounds lighter.

    MS241 and MS201 rear handle

Yes! This is where the 241 is amazing. I'm intrigued by the 5 pound 2511WES though. I mean come on, that thing has to be fun to use.... until you hit a 12" section to cut.

    MS241 and MS201 rear handle

What exactly do you prefer about the 241? I assume it's because you can get into bigger stuff before you have to swap to a bigger saw? If all you had to do was limb little-to-medium stuff, does the 200 shine? Or do you still pick up the 241? Are there any scenarios where you grab the 200?

    MS241 and MS201 rear handle

I was asking exactly this same question 1 year ago and I ended up with the 241. The 241 might be my favorite of all my saws, but I'm still not sure I made the right decision given how close it is to the 261. The 241 is seriously impressive. It's a good bit ligher than the 261. Full of...

    Picco chain on an MS251

Picco cuts really well on my 241. Cutting a narrower slice means you cut faster. But there's not a lot of love for running it on more powerful saws and longer bars. It dulls faster, doesn't clear chips as well, stuff like that. I would wait for the new narrow kerf chain coming soon stihl...

Damage to saw by starting up and not using

It's not about lubricating the parts. It's about the piston and cylinder expanding at different rates as they heat up.

Tree hung up on other trees.

I was wondering the same. What are the gotchas here? How likely is it that the base of the tree ends up falling toward you? Seems pretty low but is there anything you need to do to ensure it? Bar getting pinched - seems high. Does cutting half way through from the top then finishing with...

Trappers please help catch a #$@*(&% Groundhog

I tried to trap a groundhog that dug under my patio for 2 weeks. Nothing worked (including melon). I poured some ammonia in the hole and he never came back.

    MS 462 & MS 500i..

OK so I did my homework and googled for a few hours. I found posts or videos from 3 reputable porters who got 21-22% improvement when porting a 462. The 461 is more like 30%, so yeah the 462 is nearly 1/3 of the way there right out of the gate. Which raises the question - how much room is...

    MS 462 & MS 500i..

Thanks Brad. And how is the 462 stock vs ported? I've heard many say it's just fantastic right out of the box. And then others say it responds really well to porting. I suppose both of those could be true.

    MS 462 & MS 500i..

Well, I'm looking for something to run a 20" bar. The 461R is a full 2.7 lbs heavier than the 462 (and only 1.1 lbs lighter than a 661). It's not exactly optimized for a 20" bar. Maybe the solution is to buy the 462 and put a 20 on it and use the 461R for longer bars.

Nice. Just read both quickly and don't see where he said they're nearly identical..

    MS 462 & MS 500i..

But back to the original question... Has anyone actually run both a 500i and a 462 and ended up preferring the 462? The 462 is getting rave reviews. Does it have any advantages over the 500i? I'm pretty sure I'm selling my ported 461R to get either a 462. But now I might make myself wait...

    MS 462 & MS 500i..

I really want a 462 but I'm waiting to see the US price on the 500i. The 500i is a little heavier, and a lot uglier. :D
