    Chain mystery

Echo 620 and I use a Granberg portable electric sharpener. I'm still breaking the saw in, original chain, only sharpened a handful of times. The curious thing is that while sharpening, on one side only, I have a series of about 6 or 8 teeth that require me to adjust the angle on the Granberg...

    Hydraulic disassembly

Kevin, you are correct. I did it the semi-dangerous and very messy way. The cylinder was half air, half oil due to the partial rebuild post fire and leaky gland. That sucker shot out and could've killed someone. I got lucky. If anyone attempts this, make sure the cylinder is full of oil to push...

    Hydraulic disassembly

Got it figured out. Had to push in the cap with a bfh on an ABS pipe to access the big c-clip, then some work to extract the cap. New seals were $35. It's an odd setup where the cap doesn't unscrew. I pushed the cap out using the hydraulics with the engine running. It made an oily mess and the...

    Hydraulic disassembly

I removed the one bolt but the cap is in the way of the snap ring. How do I get that cap out of the way? The engine/tires end of splitter was burned in a wildfire. The piston was retracted and most seals are probably fine, but it's leaking at the "gland seal" during retraction.

How bad is it to force a wood splitter

Very much appreciated, I can finish a job tomorrow. I take a break every 1/3 cord to drive and stack, a full load in my Tacoma, so the splitter oil gets some cooling time. Thanks again. Another question though. This splitter is about 25 years old and has seen basic maintenance. If something were...

How bad is it to force a wood splitter

My old 20t Iron and Oak splitter stops completely when it hits an especially tough oak round. If I keep the lever pulled it'll sit for 5 seconds before slowly penetrating and getting the job done. It otherwise functions normal, so it's not a bad pump etc. How bad is it to "force" the hydraulics...

Chipper blade weights/balancing...how much is too much?

Pic of the Echo 4420. Great, very well designed machine for anyone curious. I've probably put 50 hours on it now.

Chipper blade weights/balancing...how much is too much?

Any rule of thumb or estimate on what's an acceptable difference in blade weights for a chipper? Model is an Echo Bearcat 4420 chipper, each blade weighs 1100 grams (about 2.5 pounds) and the rotor is 49 pounds. After multiple sharpenings the blades differ by about 10 grams (two blades). Not...

Echo 590 factory settings and break in...

I'll have to pick up a tach to experiment with my tuning and ear but I read that the upper shouldn't be set without being under load on the 590 due to the rev limiter? I'd think a proper tune without load would give a proper tune with a load, a bit confused by how that works if all a load does...

Echo 590 factory settings and break in...

Where's the metering cover and what should I look for to see if there's a bypass? Good info and thanks, it runs well so I'm not too concerned but I'd like to understand it better.

Echo 590 factory settings and break in...

I was gentle breaking in a new cs590 and finally hit full rev today after a few tanks so I decided to pull the carb adjust limiters to tune beyond factory (and at the same time cut out the muffler outlet cap's 180 bend which is common to do). It turns out that all this time during break in the...

Husky 125 blower vs 125 trimmer engines?

Ah, bummer. Looks like it'll be a part-out.

Husky 125 blower vs 125 trimmer engines?

I need to do a piston and cylinder on a 125b blower. Oddly the parts must be purchased separately, but the 125L trimmer rebuild is sold as a kit and costs half as much. I dug high and low through the internet but can't figure out if the two share the same engine, it seems logical that they do...
