    help identifying bar

Thanks. I don't know the Windsor codes.

    help identifying bar

The images are from an ebay listing which says it' .058 when it's stamped .050 so there's a red flag. Also, it looks like an Oregon bar but the listing says made by Jonsered. That said, looks like a D009 mount which is for Husqvarna 162, Jonsered 630, etc.

    keep those rakers!

Old "scratcher" chains had rakers. Modern chains have depth gauges. They're completely different in purpose and design. However, Timber Beetle Larvae don't need either because even they are smarter than a motorised bicycle chain! :)

What is your favorite chainsaw of all time?

The one in my profile pic. Husqvarna 154SE. (The starter is from, a 254) Nearly 40 years old.

    keep those rakers!

I'm still not used to depth gauges being referred to as "rakers". I always imagine someone raking cut grass :D

What's The Real Reason Husqvarna has Shuttering So Many US Plants?

I've flown there from Shreveport LA. It wasn't very big from the air.

    So what Husqvarna is this?

It could be some people are understandably confused. Technically the Gilardoni cylinders do have closed ports, though without the accelerative tapering possible with sand casting. Their non sand cast pistons are also heavier. The clever thing about them is how they cast the cylinders around a...

    So what Husqvarna is this?

Thank you. That makes sense. I'd previously thought that 268 was the US model name for the 1980s 66 (i.e. a 266 with a Gilardoni cylinder & piston) but from what you've said it was more like a 272 with a 67cc Gilardoni cylinder & piston. If so, how does as 268XP differ from a 268?

    So what Husqvarna is this?

Could be almost any combination of parts From the outside, looks like a 1990s 268 (model 66 in Australia) with a 268XP top cover.

Husqvarna Using Knockoff Brand Carbs Now?

Ruixing is a carburettor manufacturer, no more a "knock off" than a Zama. As it happens, I've not seen a problem with Ruixing carbs on Homelite and Ryobi Zenoah Z3800-based saws. If the external finish is anything to go by their quality is good. I've been running one of them for 5 years now with...

254/262 carb - difference between them

Actually, the silver-grey tipped needle in the photo looks exactly like the original HDA type from the 1980s - i.e. stainless steel with a shiny compressible tip. Never seen an orange-tipped one myself.

What older model chainsaw has the most durable engine?

Really? The 61 was new here when I was 21. You must be really really old😳😂

Tool to remove husqvarna 61 cylinder bolts

Nicely put Bob. I remember a Stihl rep at an Orange Field Day in NSW in the mid 80s being astounded to discover there were only 8 parts in a Husqvarna chainbrake when the equivalent Stihl model had about 20. The SAE bolt story told to me went like this. The 260CD and 480CD had slots machined...

They're definitely 3/16". These bolts are not metric.

    181se questions

No problem. The 266 ignition uses the same ignition as the 162, which was introduced in 1976.

    181se questions

Only reason I think the voltage multiplication might be more electronic in the 181 than the 266 is (a) the smaller size of the 181 secondary unit and (b) the 8 year difference in technology between the 2 - but I am only speculating.

    181se questions

I don't know for sure but I doubt it's a transformer, at least not only a transformer. (Can't find any old "Svenska Elektro-Magneter" documentation.). More likely some kind of insulated-gate transistor voltage multiplier.

    181se questions

Not quite right. The small module contains the voltage multiplier, The spark timing is triggered by the flywheel magnet passing the third leg on the large module.

    Husqvarna 50 flywheel two keyways

I don't have any IPLs later than 1988 because that's the last year I oversaw production in Australia. We built thousands of Husqvarna 50, 40 & 45 as well as thousands of Partner 5000Plus, 500 & 400. In each case, when we pressed a crankshaft into the case halves of a 50, 5000Plus or 500, or...

    Husqvarna 50 flywheel two keyways

The numbers may change and the specification improve but the cranks were fully interchangeable back in the late 1980s when these IPLs were printed. In this case 5031121-01.
