    Floss silk trees

I bought another, larger floss silk tree about 2' high (yes, I REALLY like these trees!) from a grower in Florida and it's growing like a weed. Question: I noticed that the shipper cut the trunk once before I received it because it was growing so fast - should I pinch the branches to make it...

    Poisoned Seedling (the continuing saga)

Hi everyone, remember how my daughter poisoned my beautiful floss silk tree seedling with bleach, and I asked if you thought it would live? I got a lot of nice replies saying that it just might pull through. I ended up cutting the poor thing down to the soil level and crossing my fingers...

    Seedling was poisoned

Seedling poisoned LOL! That is so funny, I just ordered 10 seeds from this lady yesterday! Sounded like a nice woman, said she'd get them off to me right away. She recommended soaking the seeds overnight before planting. I noticed that if the seeds dry out they don't germinate. By the...

    Seedling was poisoned

Seedling poisoned Yes, I rinsed it very well and then on the advice of someone else I cut the top few inches off since it was dying anyway, then took it out of the pot and soaked it then repotted it again. I have it in a window where it gets indirect light and I'm keeping it moist. The stem...

    Seedling was poisoned

Seedling poisoned I wish it was that easy! I'm in California so the only floss silk trees I've ever seen are about a mile away - and my son and I gathered the seeds from the trees and came home and planted them. My daughter is 24 years old and just went to live w/her dad since I couldn't...

    Seedling was poisoned

Does anyone have any advice about what to do for a floss silk tree (Chorisia speciosa) that had bleach poured on it? My daughter, a vengeful person (with no morals) did this to me to a seedling that I raised from 28 seeds that I planted - it was the only one that germinated. Just about broke...

Can anyone ID this tree for me? (pic attached)

Hi everyone! Am trying to figure out what kind of tree this is. I moved into this rental duplex in January 2002 and this tree is planted right smack against my navel orange tree. Both are well-established and have dual trunks that are about 6" in diameter. I didn't realize I had two...

    Planting floss silk tree seeds

Floss silk tree No, I don't believe it's the same. If you look up the floss silk tree or silk floss tree on the internet, you'll see what a strange tree it is. We have mimosas that grow like weeds out here, so I think they're different. Thanks anyway! Roberta

    Planting floss silk tree seeds

Hi everyone! The floss silk trees in our neighborhood have burst their kapok pods, and we were able to gather up some kapok and seeds under one of the trees. Anyone have advice as to how to plant the seeds? Do I soak them first, or just plant them? Anyone know how deep? Any help you...
