    Norwood bandsaw mill

I've seen the Lumbermate, and I think it's a very good saw. -SawyerRob knows what he's talking about. Mills in the manual range have some variance, keep in mind part availability, service, etc. If I were to buy another Mill, Norwood would be in the running. Don't know whereabouts in NY...

    Red Oak Milled today CSM

Pin-Oak is the common name and is one of many species in the red oak tree family. They're difficult to dry and keep from splitting. I thought maybe you had a secret. Joe

    Money Making with your Mill?

I have a simple manual mill, a TA Schmid. I use it primarily for personal needs, (hardwood sawing) but typically custom saw enough logs for friends and neighbors that I pay for my expenses....bands, gas, misc. As of today, my cost of operating the mill only is approx. .06 to .10 cents a...

    Comments on bandsaw mills

.........an investment most definitely! It depends on the individual situation. The major is access to trees and their cost (if any), as well as their respective value$$. Cutting down high-quality red-oak to make framing lumber might not be such a good ROI, when 4/4 lumber produced from...

    Comments on bandsaw mills

Husky 22 ton splitter can you make it quicker?

Slipknot: 1. Check piston seals for leakage. -take the cylinder to full extension, and remove the rod side hose (or loosen it up). Place the valve in the "extension" direction. If oil comes out of the loosened hose, then you indeed have piston seal bypass. The seals on those types of...

How long will it last ?

BobOak, 5 years ago I milled out my own fence (for decoration, but it would hold cattle with no problem). 100 fence posts 4*4, 300 boards 1 *6, and 300 boards 4" by 36" for the face cap. Posts were made from Black Locust, and the boards from locust and some white oak. If you want to...

    treated lumber

-Agree with Sawyer Rob. Nothing sold to the public will work. Soaking doesn't do a whole lot. Bookerdog-any specific use that you're thinking of? Posts, or deck lumber?

    lumber dim.

Hey guys, I saw lumber on the 4/4 scale for hardwood, and on 3/4 inch for construction lumber. My old house was framed 100+ years ago. They even went so far as if there was good lumber, the roof was framed at 2' centers. In other spots, where the lumber had wane, or bark left on, it was...

    Splitter project help

Hey Millman, (makes me wanna say: Hey Crabman!) I would agree with smokindodge101, adjustment could be necessary. Since we don't know what the old dump truck settings were, it could very well be the pressure setting on the relief valve. Your first picture of the valve on post #1 shows...

    Splitter project help

Greg, The gauges will be invaluable. To check for cylinder piston seal leakage, dead-head the cylinder on retraction, or extension. Loosen the fitting on the opposite side of the piston, and watch for oil coming out. It would take a major amount of bypass to cause problems. Have fun. Joe
