    044 build

yes this one has the plastic chip guard. the 2005 044 manual shows 1125 640 1701 (normal) and 1122 648 0401 (large) chain covers. is 1125 640 1701 correct for a 1988 or is it possible that the on I have is right?

    044 build

Hi, I got an 044 10mm from a coworker of unknown origin. Seems to be original but I have a question: the chain cover doesnt seem to fit perfectly although it seems functional. I've checked the IPL and it shows a different number but its from 2005 so its too new to be trusted for a 1988 saw...

Chainsaw only runs /starts on full choke

It sounds like it's starved for fuel or leaking air, that's why it runs better with the choke on. If it used to run good but sat for a long time, you might have varnish so take the carb apart and clean it. Turning out the H and L screws should help but it's folly to tune a saw before cleaning it...

    Help with birch

The tree looks nice and healthy. If it were mine I would do a little light pruning each season, say take most of the first 2 feet of branches near the ground off this year, plus a few that are criss-crossing and rubbing on eachother or growing downwards, a little more each year. by now its...

    Removing raised garden around tree

I agree with previous posters, not much to worry about. looks like a silver maple, they are vigorous trees and that one looks large and healhy with nice flared roots. the root system extends roughly under the canopy so that little shallow ring is hardly an impact. still, you might want to be...

    Whole tree vs half tree

ATH has a point, are the trees really posing a risk right now? Eventually dead trees all fall down. greengreer has a point, it's over septic you can see the tanks, drain field is probably not far away, can't drive equipment or drop limbs over the drain field, and who knows what else is going...

    Whole tree vs half tree

Was $4k for the entire cost of removal? Try having it quoted differently, like option 1= take the tree down to the ground and take away everything less than 4", option 2=take everything but the stump, option 3= everything including stump removal. You might chose to have them do option 1, and...

    How should I cut this?

You want to prune at a natural location, like near a crotch or near a bud. Whatever diameter the branch is where you want to cut off, make the cut at a distance of about 1/2 of that diameter away from the location, so that there is a little excess stump leftover to heal. So for example, if you...

Need help identifying tree and what ails it...

Happy to have helped. I must confess I am not a tree care expert, but have planted and cared for many trees in my day. So Im about out of ideas but you might try contacting your local university extension service, they might have a free hotline if you dont get an expert around here to chime...

Need help identifying tree and what ails it...

the first image shows a long narrow strip of missing bark, which is actually better than missing a short wide strip becauar the tree needs most of its circumference intact. so thats a plus. the other images dont concern me much, the uneven bark could be just transitioning from young smooth...

Need help identifying tree and what ails it...

It's in the red oak side of the family since it has pointed leaves. The funny leaf pattern is caused by stress. The leaves are fighting to flush out as much as possible on the good side, to keep the tree alive, but the other side may have bark damage or roots have choked it off and now it...

Stihl forestry helmet - replacement parts

Guys I'm posting up an answer here since it came up in a search and I didn't know where else to put it... 10 years late LOL. Have your ever?

yup 2 years ago for christmas I got my dad a new OEM B/C for his 026. I didn't know at the time he was running .325 - I bought a 3/8. Rather than return the B/C I bought an 026 of my own. Seemed rational enough, hell any excuse to buy a saw is a good one. I went back and got a new .325...

    Stihl crank case repair(welding)?!?!?!

careful welding magnesium I never tried welding magnesium but it sounds like fun. If it sparks off it's white hot and bright as hell. Best put shield gas on both sides and weld outdoors. Good luck. Holy crap, I just saw that you torched it and it worked. Good job. How did it go? How...
