    Stihl S10 starter cover logo

Well she's going to need some work. Seems roaches or the like crawled up through the exhaust and into the open port and built a nest in the upper cylinder. Someone has gone to start it and hit a wall of mud. I pulled the cylinder and the piston looks ok. Rings are cactus and the bore has a...

    Stihl S10 starter cover logo

Thanks Scallywag. I thought it was probably changed. I ended up buying it. It's a non runner for $80. The cases, bar, chain etc are excellent but I guess the starter case is not original. I am a big fan of the shape though. Great looking saw. I will keep an eye out for an original in a but...

    Stihl S10 starter cover logo

Just wondering if anyone could tell me, does a version of the S10 rear handle come with the more modern Stihl logo of the orange rectangle style versus the version I have only seen, the crosscut saw on the log face? I am looking at a version with the orange rectangle logo and I thought perhaps...

When is saw compression too high?

It's a bit of a tricky one to pull down compared to the few I have fiddled with. I really want to pull the cylinder off to clean the heavily carboned exhaust port.

When is saw compression too high?

Thanks Little Al. Spot on with that. It had me stumped as I have not seen a set up like this. I wasn't expecting a decomp on a little saw. With this setup ( deco etc) and the heavily built starter mechanism perhaps 200 psi isn't out of the ball park.

When is saw compression too high?

Interesting you fellas mentioned the starting mechanism. I just pulled this one apart and it is built like a tank. There are no plastic components in there at all. I've got a Pioneer 620 and this little Homelite has a starter that makes the Pioneer at 103cc look flimsy. I guess I won't know...

Would you let your dentist port a saw?

Well considering just yesterday my dentist was drilling away and the cost came to $1250, I'd just buy a new saw.

When is saw compression too high?

That's right Lesorubcheek. It's Canadian built and it does look like the models you mention. Does that mean I'm still searching for chain oil getting into the engine?

When is saw compression too high?

Excuse the ignorance but I would have thought that the oil tank was entirely separate and run by a crank driven pump then out onto the bar mount. This particular saw has a manual oiler too by the looks so where does the oil make its way to the crankcase?

    MS261 rim or spur sprocket?

Gidday Jollylogger. I have recently purchased a very tidy low hour specimen. It has a spur sprocket. Would this most likely have been changed? I would doubt they sold two versions, what do you think?

    MS261 rim or spur sprocket?

Folks just wondering if this saw was sold new with a rim sprocket? Generally, are rim sprockets found in high end machines?

When is saw compression too high?

    Cheers for that

When is saw compression too high?

There is a heap of carbon in the exhaust port. I would like to remove a bit of it first. It would have to be 25% blocked I reckon unless there is a significant taper on the port. Lastly I'm waiting on some parts from Canada to arrive to make it complete.

When is saw compression too high?

Thanks. Pretty sure gauge is accurate as I gave tested a few machines over time and it has given me expected values. I've had a quick look at the saw and it doesn't look like the simplest thing to pull down.

When is saw compression too high?

I picked up a Homelite Super Mini, two tone paint red and white. I have had half a look at it so far (not running) and tried a compression gauge on it. It registered 205 psi. I haven't had a saw register that high before. The exhaust port is pretty choked up. Looking through the plug hole...

    Pioneer chainsaws

Folks I have had a good look over the web and cannot see very much on this saw. Can anyone here provide some information on the model year and cc's etc? I am assuming it is a 1200 equivalent? If so, where does the Holiday variant differ? After having a good look I realised the bar plate has been...

    Pioneer chainsaws

Thanks for that. I'm just waiting for some gaskets. Whilst searching for bits and pieces locally I came across this saw. It looked ok and ran really well. Its a Pioneer Holiday 1200W

    Pioneer chainsaws

Hi Chris, thanks for that. I need to source a gasket or make one up in the next week. I may just pull the exhaust too before I try and start it. I'm curious as to how things are in there after all these years.

    Pioneer chainsaws

Howdy, they are not up to the minute pictures. What I'm stuck on is what goes inside the fuel bowl. I know there is a fuel filter/gauze of sometype but unsure what it looks like or how it is held in place. There is a thread in there so I'm assuming something screws in place to perhaps retain...

    Pioneer chainsaws

Pioneer 620 hoping to fire up The oil pump works but was pumping black ooze so I pulled it down and cleaned it up. A bit more degreasing to do. Perhaps the oil and sludge is what preserved things to some degree. Some older clean saws I have come across have got quite a bit of metal...
