    milling some white pine

Wind storm took down a white pine in the back yard. Snapped it off about 20' above the ground. On the mill is a chunk that was close to 30 up,, yes it was a big tree! This one is short due to rot and splitting. Normally white pine would have gone to the burn pile, especially since it was a...

New Stihl MS 880 CSM keeps throwing chain

I have a pretty long bar on my processor and have seen the chain wave you speak of and had to slow my chain speed to get rid of it. Knowing how far the drive rims are from the crankshaft bearings on Stihl saws makes me cringe to think of a chain being as tight as the OP stated, but I guess if...

New Stihl MS 880 CSM keeps throwing chain

Ok I am not a chainsaw milling guy but using the Stihl supplied t-handle wrench as tight as one can turn it?? Really? Amazes me that the clutch side bearing lasts long enough to burn the paint off the muffler. I have a 36" bar on my 661 which I realize is a longways from a 60 but the amount of...

    Assemblig the Peterson JP

My oldest son on the JP making his first cuts. It will cut considerably faster than this but he is the cautious type. This is some Ash I cut two years ago. I need to cut some blocks to raise the log about 4" higher as we couldn't get all the wood with the mill set all the way down. I also have a...

    Assemblig the Peterson JP

And here we are on the first cuts, my oldest son knocked me out of the way and took over so I got the camera out. The mill was adjusted perfectly as received. Need some bigger pieces for the log beds. We will cut those out of the next log we cut. Changed photo host so hopefully all works here.

    Assemblig the Peterson JP

Here the saw unit is on the frames and ready to mill the first log. What sold me on Peterson was the engineering, a person really cant appreciate it unless he is up against the unit and using it. The saw head wheels like a wheel barrow, perfectly balanced and on tires big enough to roll easily...

    Assemblig the Peterson JP

The JR was a cup of coffee shy of 10K. That is with Honda engine upgrade and one piece rails. Dealer is Left Coast Supply in Ca. A person has to wonder about spending that kind of money for a mill but the engineering is awesome and it is light weight. The rails will stay out on the pad but...

    Assemblig the Peterson JP

Old grain bin pad made a nice place to set up the mill. Tracks go together quickly

    Assemblig the Peterson JP

Big box full of JP Peterson arrived at the dock Thursday along with the one piece rails. Thought I would share a few pictures. What did I get myself into? Unloading the box Rekon I will live long enough to assemble all this??

    Stihl firewood Saw

I agree with the others in that there is little need for a 60cc saw in a multi saw operation. I used to be a 60cc do all guy with my 036 and 610 Macs before that. Now that I have a shelf full of saws from 40 to 90cc I seldom find real use for the 036 other than running it for old times sake. I...

Does owning a dump trailer make financial sense

Isnt it amazing how we can be made to feel that way when we say no? Half the time people who want to use my dump trailer want to do things with it that I would not do myself, like haul 6' diameter stones thrown in it at the quarry, yes that was asked, Grrr. Or drag it in salt. Best one was the...

Does owning a dump trailer make financial sense

Depends on how you look at it and how you tally the pluses and minuses. Strictly dollars it makes little sense to own one (and I do won one). Cost to buy, plates, insurance, tire here and there, battery, brakes, lights, it all ads up to a lot of money each year. A person can rent one by the...

    New mill, can't wait!

Hi all, After kicking tires and procrastination for years I finally took the jump and ordered a mill yesterday. I have a huge pile of Ash logs and will be soon making lumber on a new Jr Peterson. Been a long process deciding what to purchase, everything from a shop built band saw to a used old...

    Ash trees in Ohio

I thought mine had escaped but middle of last summer they all died. No way I can use them all for firewood and I am debating buying a bandmill to saw some of mine up for lumber so as to get some use out of them. How long do I have to debate this before they are too far gone?
